Het is inmiddels alweer bijna zes jaar geleden dat Prince ons is ontvallen. Deze iconische zanger en muzikant was een pionier van nieuwe muziek. Hij was, zoals de LA Times-schrijvers het uitdrukten, 'onze eerste post-alles-popster', een figuur die de categorieën genre, ras, geslacht en commerciële aantrekkingskracht oversteeg.

Als jou zou worden gevraagd welke hits uit de koker van Prince kwamen, dan zou je waarschijnlijk al snel denken aan 'Purple Rain', 'Kiss' en '1999'. Maar wist je
De carrière van Prince, die vier decennia beslaat, liep over van iconische outfits, overvloedige hoeveelheden charme, onmisbare podiumpresentatie en bodemloos talent. Gitaar, drums, bas, keyboard - noem maar op, hij speelde het. Voeg daar een onmogelijk breed vocaal bereik aan toe, dat reikt van falsetto tot bariton, en muziek was echt zijn speelbal, en dat is misschien de reden waarom hij zo comfortabel morphed, geavanceerde en pionierde genres, waaronder het beroemde Minneapolis-geluid dat funk, rock, synthpop en new wave mixte.
