Hoewel reality-tv gebaseerd is op het idee dat wat de kijker ziet echt is. Maar wat je eigenlijk ziet is een gedistilleerde versie van de werkelijkheid. Eentje waarin je alleen deelnemers aan het programma ziet, maar niet de producers achter de schermen die de onderlinge relaties verstoren, of de editors die de beelden precies zo aanpassen dat het op iets lijkt wat het niet is. Dit doen ze om een verhaallijn te creëren. Alleen gaat het niet om fictionele personages, maar om echte mensen.
